Sgt. Edmond L. Randle Legacy Scholarship

The Sgt. Edmond L. Randle Legacy Scholarship recognizes the student who most fully reflects the character, service, leadership, and commitment demonstrated throughout Sgt. Edmond L. Randle Jr.'s life. This scholarship does not simply recognize achievement. It defines the standard.

Sergeant Edmond Lee Randle Jr. was a native of Miami, Florida, a graduate of Miami Central High School, and a proud member of the Florida A&M University Marching '100.' During his time with the Marching '100,' he served as Freshman Trumpet Section Leader, Rank Sergeant, and Assistant Section Leader. His excellence earned him the Leonard C. Bowie Award and Most Outstanding Sophomore. Driven by a desire to serve a purpose greater than himself, Sgt. Randle enlisted in the United States Army on February 10, 2000. As an ammunition specialist, he continued to lead with courage and dependability. On January 17, 2004, Sgt. Randle made the ultimate sacrifice while serving near Taji, Iraq, during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, and the Combat Action Badge. His legacy reflects honor, sacrifice, service, and an unwavering commitment to others.

The scholarship recognizes a student who demonstrates:

• Responsibility and dependability
• A desire to serve a purpose greater than themselves
• Leadership by example
• The ability to foster a positive and disciplined environment
• Unselfish loyalty to the organization
• Bandsman bearing

Candidates must:

• Be a full-time student (minimum of 12 credit hours per term)
• Maintain good academic standing with the University
• Maintain good standing with the Band Department
• Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00
• Participate in both the Marching Band and Wind Band each semester
• Demonstrate leadership within the Marching Band

Students do not apply directly for this scholarship. At the end of each semester, eligible students are identified through the Band Program's internal selection process and evaluated by authorized band directors and staff. Final selections are made according to the Soulever Foundation's approved scholarship-selection process.

The Sgt. Edmond L. Randle Legacy Scholar is selected from among the Soulever Scholarship Finalists. The final evaluation considers which candidate most fully embodies the leadership, service, character, discipline, and sense of purpose exemplified by Sgt. Edmond L. Randle Jr.

Funds are applied directly toward tuition and fees. Actual award amounts may vary, up to the stated maximum, and will be determined by the Soulever Foundation.

The scholarship may be renewed for a maximum total period of four academic years, including the original award year. To remain eligible, the recipient must:

• Remain a full-time student (minimum of 12 credit hours per term)
• Maintain good academic standing with the University
• Maintain good standing with the Band Department
• Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00
• Continue participating in both the Marching Band and Wind Band each semester
• Continue demonstrating leadership within the Marching Band
• Complete a minimum of 20 hours of meaningful community service in the Big Bend area

All community service hours will be verified. Community service hours are required for renewal only.

Renewal is not automatic and remains contingent upon the recipient's continued eligibility and the availability of funds.
